In general
Balanced giving and receiving, generosity, or help arriving when you need it. If you have enough, this is a good time to share; if you are in need, do not be ashamed to receive.
Love
A relationship where both give and receive in balance; generosity toward each other. Beware of one partner always giving and the other always taking.
Work and study
A bonus, a raise, a grant, or mentoring someone else. Charity, social services and resource allocation are well starred.
Money
Money circulating well, financial help, fair loans or donations. Handle debts honestly.
Health and vitality
Receiving good care, or caring for others. Taurus rules the throat; good food in good measure helps.
Inner life and growth
Gratitude as giver and receiver; knowing everyone depends on one another.
The card's advice
Give something to someone in need this week — time, knowledge or money — without expecting anything back.
Reversed meaning
In general
Giving with strings attached, using help to control, or imbalance between giving and receiving. You may give so much you suffer, or receive so much it becomes dependence.
Love
An unbalanced relationship; one partner using money or help to control the other.
Work and study
Unfair pay or being exploited.
Money
Unfair debts, loans not repaid, or giving until you are in trouble yourself.
Health and vitality
Caring for others until you neglect yourself.
Inner life and growth
Giving to feel superior rather than from the heart.
The card's advice
Look at which relationships have giving and receiving out of balance, and set clear new boundaries.
Imagery and symbols

- Two kneeling figuresReceivers in different positions: one receives, the other still waits.
- Six pentacles floating aboveAbundance enough to share.
- The town behindThe society and community that generosity strengthens.
Details most readers miss
- The merchant's scales echo those of Justice. Giving here is not boundless; it is giving that has been weighed and judged appropriate.
- The giver stands above the receivers. The image invites reflection on the power in giving: good help also preserves the receiver's dignity.
- After the Five, which walked through hardship, the Six is where resources flow again. Someone who once struggled may one day become the giver.
History and origins
The Golden Dawn named this card the “Lord of Material Success” and gave it the second decan of Taurus, ruled by the Moon. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, so this is abundance that flows gently: nurture with a stable footing.
Smith drew a wealthy merchant holding scales and handing coins to one of two kneeling beggars. Waite describes him weighing money in a pair of scales and distributing it to the needy, and reads the card as presents, gifts, gratification, attention and vigilance.
The story of the card
After the hardship of the Five, help arrives. The traveller receives, and once on his feet he learns to share in turn; resources flow again.
With enough resources, the next card, the Seven of Pentacles, is investing and waiting for what was planted to grow.
Element and elemental dignities
This card belongs to Earth, the energy of money, work, the body and tangible security.
Under the Golden Dawn rules of elemental dignities, Earth is friendly with Water and opposed to Air. Beside cards of the same or a friendly element this card grows stronger; beside an opposing element it weakens or shows its harder side.
| Relation | Major Arcana in this group |
|---|---|
| Same element (strengthens) | The Empress, The Hierophant, The Hermit, The Devil, The World |
| Friendly element (supports) | The High Priestess, The Chariot, The Hanged Man, Death, The Moon |
| Opposing element (weakens) | The Fool, The Magician, The Lovers, Justice, The Star |
When Earth dominates a spread: clinging to security and possessions; slow to move or change. When it is missing: Add Earth with a step-by-step plan, a budget and timeline, and care for your body.
Sign, planet and timing
This card rules decan 2 of Taurus (10°–20° Taurus), ruled by Moon in the Chaldean order. The Sun passes through it around 30 Apr – 10 May each year, so in a reading the card can point to timing.
Its meaning blends Moon (emotions, home, ebb and flow) with Taurus, a fixed Earth sign. The Major Arcana card of the same sign is The Hierophant, and the card of the same planet is The High Priestess.
Key of Life: number, birth cards and quintessence
Minor cards numbered 6 belong to constellation 6 with The Lovers, The Devil, the chooser who learns about love, desire and what binds the heart. This card shows that constellation's energy in the realm of Earth. The number itself means harmony, healing and giving.
On the Tree of Life the number corresponds to sephirah 6, Tiphareth · Beauty: harmony, the centre of the self, in Assiah · world of matter.
Path on the Tree of Life
Minor cards sit on the sephiroth rather than the paths. This card is placed at sephirah 6, Tiphareth · Beauty — harmony, the centre of the self — on the Middle Pillar of Balance. The Pentacles suit belongs to Assiah · world of matter, so this card is the force of Tiphareth working in that world.
Uranian astrology connection
Uranian astrology (the Hamburg School) uses eight hypothetical points beyond Neptune alongside the real planets. This card resonates with Admetos and Cupido.
- Admetos (Adm)Admetos is compression and stillness, like a seed buried before it sprouts. It reads as delay, limitation, land, resources and beginning again from a full stop. Keywords: standstill, delay, depth, land, raw material, endings that are beginnings
- Cupido (Cup)Cupido, the first point proposed by Alfred Witte, describes people coming together: family, marriage, associations and society, and the art that grows out of shared feeling. Keywords: family, marriage, groups, community, art, belonging
This match comes from the element of the Pentacles suit and the decan's planet, Moon.
This correspondence is TarotMod's own synthesis from the meanings of the Hamburg School factors; it is not part of traditional tarot. Cast your Uranian chart
