Suit of Cups
Cups are Water: feeling, love, relationships, imagination and intuition. Events in this suit happen inside first and show outside later.
Cups come from the coppe of Italian and Mamluk cards and became hearts (♥) in France. A cup is a vessel that receives, so the suit has meant water, emotion and love from the start. Western tradition also links it with the Holy Grail, clearly echoed in this deck's Ace of Cups.
In many Cups cards nobody actually drinks: the figures stare, refuse or turn away. The meaning usually lies in the attitude toward a feeling rather than the feeling itself.
