Suit of Wands
Wands are Fire: drive, enthusiasm, creativity, work born of desire and the courage to act. Events in this suit tend to move fast.
Wands descend from the batons (bastoni) of 15th-century Italian cards, which inherited them from the polo sticks of Egyptian Mamluk cards. In French decks the suit became clubs (♣). In the 1909 Rider–Waite–Smith deck, Pamela Colman Smith drew every wand sprouting fresh leaves to show living, growing energy rather than dead wood.
Every wand in the deck carries new leaves, even in the heavy Ten of Wands — a reminder that whatever you are carrying is still alive and can still change.
